Book Review: Sphere by Michael Crichton

Investigators of a crashed spacecraft
find unexpected dangers and mysteries
in the craft and in themselves.

Plot Overview

A psychologist is called out to a recovered wreck in the middle of the ocean. He’s told that an airliner went down, but soon learns that the wreck has been buried under coral for 300 years. The group concludes that it is an alien spacecraft, and dives down to explore it; Inside, they make surprising discoveries about the ship, its crew, and especially its cargo. While on the ocean floor, a storm drives away the surface ships, leaving them stranded. After some strange accidents and malfunctions, they begin to wonder more about the fate of the spaceship’s crew and whether they are really alone.

My Opinion

One of my favorite books as a kid that I’ve read over and over; it says a lot about human nature and our instincts. It’s the kind of sci-fi I love: not based around technology or science, but around the people and their reactions to extraordinary events

tl;dr

If you’re expected lasers and space battles, this isn’t the book for you. If you’re looking for a new twist on science fiction and a character-driven plot, you should buy this.
